About our Strength and Balance
Classes for Older Adults

Strength Training for Runners & Clubs

As we get older our bone health, strength and balance naturally deteriorate.

Our classes focus on building bone density and improving muscle strength to prevent breaks and fractures. We also work on balance to train the body to be steady, strong and to prevent falls. Classes are ideal for people with osteopenia, osteoarthritis and arthritis.

The goal of our classes is to help prevent deterioration, to maintain independent living, and to allow you continue doing what you enjoy such as walking, hiking, playing golf, gardening or playing with your grandkids. We do simple exercises offering the body lots of variety and movement. We like to use the phrase, “Use it or lose it”.

Our classes will allow you live in a stronger body which makes everything feel easier such as getting out of a chair, using stairs and going up hills.

There is a good mix of men and women and a great social side to the classes. A community within a community. Anyone going through a tough time will receive great support from the others in the group. There are weekly coffee sessions after the class where many friendships begin.

This programme is delivered in Midleton GAA (across from the train station).

Who is the programme aimed at?

This programme is suitable for adults who walk unaided and want to stay strong on their feet and fall free for life. It is not suitable for people who use a walking stick or frame.
